Fellow Residents within the Klein Independent School District:
“Next in importance to freedom and justice is popular education, without which neither freedom nor justice can be permanently maintained.” James A. Garfield (1831 – 1881) |
I have chosen to participate in the race for the honor of being selected as one of your school board trustees. Some of the reasons I have made this decision are as follows: 1. I hold a sincere belief in, and a commitment to public education. It is a primary concern of our community.
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." W. B. Yeats |
2. Klein ISD is a strong and vibrant school district, moving in a positive direction under excellent administrative leadership. I have the experience and capability to assist our board in their effort to be a more efficient, team oriented, policy focused board. 3. I support our Klein District effort to have and to implement consistent discipline in order to keep our schools safe , and to maintain the best possible learning environment.
"The foundation of every state is the education of its youth." Diogenes Laertius |
4. If elected I can offer a clear understanding of governance and hope to assist the board in the very difficult task of focusing on appropriate policy issues. It is necessary to avoid the very common mistake of trying to micromanage a superintendent and his staff. 5. I believe students are the object and teachers the soul of an effective educational system. It is my goal to serve on a board that does its part to participate with our superintendent and staff enabling teachers to do what they love to do best, which is to teach students.
"We want to provide a quality education for each child, meeting his or her needs in the best manner possible. Our other major goals are character education and achieving exemplary status for all campuses and the district as a whole."
Dr. Jim W. Cain, Superintendent Klein Independent School District April 04, 2004 Houston Chronicle

6. If elected I will bring to the board additional leadership and teamwork ability which are the most important components required for effective governance.
I look forward to an opportunity to meet many of you and to answer your questions. I am available for discussions, would enjoy speaking with or to groups, and I am open to your input or suggestions. I would appreciate your support, and obviously your vote. However, regardless of your choice of candidates, PLEASE VOTE. The children of Klein deserve and need your participation. Sincerely, Jim Smith
